DSN Manager

DSN is an acronym for 'Data Source Name'. They enable you to refer to your databases by a name, rather than a filename. This is useful as the filename may change requiring you to change all your ASP code (which maybe many different scripts) to reflect this change. If you use a DSN all you need to do is change the DSN rather than updating all your code.

The Control Panel enables you to add, modify, and delete DSNs for your Access databases. You can also set passwords for your DSNs.

  • The databases you need to create the DSNs for need to be uploaded to your site

  • Click the DSN icon on the left of the Control Panel

  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and logged on to the Control Panel

  • Click the Get DSNs button and you will be presented with a list of all your Access databases and any DSNs you have associated with them

  • In the grid you may type in DSN names and passwords (if you require them) for your databases. You may also modify existing DSNs

  • Once you have made any changes click the Apply button and your DSNs will be created or modified on the server

Currently the Control Panel only supports the creation of DSNs for Access databases. If you need a DSN for your SQL Server database then please contact us giving us the name of your SQL server database, the DSN - both its name and the password, domain name and password for your account.
